Everyday Almost-Art

Pink Floyd sang: "money, it's a hit. Don't give me none of that do goody-good bullshit." Deep down we all love money, we appreciate it for it's potential power and its kinetic power. We also appreciate the designs and artwork that go into making money. But we would hardly give up money to buy art unless the money itself was worth less than the art. One reason the money is worth less than the art is through social convention: we all agree that a $1 bill is worth exactly one dollar. Another would be that money is common: so many copies are made of each denomination precisely for the reason of keeping the price of each down low enough that it not be regarded as art. Another reason money is not fully art is that the money would have no value if it didn't have a use as money, we would just lose it like so many pieces of trash paper and never bother to find it again.
